What anonymous really means on a video call
People say anonymous chat and mean three different things. Some mean nobody knows my name. Some mean nothing I say gets saved to a profile. Some mean I can show up without being seen at all. Those are not the same, so here is exactly what you get.
On a video call you are visible. The other person sees your face and hears your voice, because that is what a video call is. What is missing is everything that normally comes attached to you: no username to look up, no bio to read, no follower count, no list of past conversations on display. In a guest chat you are simply someone who turned up.
If showing your face is the part that bothers you, there is a quieter way in. Text chat with strangers keeps the camera off and works through the same matching.

What you share and what stays with you
It helps to be concrete about this.
Visible to the other person
Your live video and audio, for as long as you choose to keep your camera on. Anything you say out loud or type.
Not shown to the other person
A username, a profile, a photo gallery, a friends list. None of these exist for a guest, so none of them can be browsed.
Entirely up to you
Your name, city, school, employer, social handles. Share them or do not; the call works the same either way.
Anonymous chat habits that protect you
Anonymity is a feature of the product. Safety is a habit of the person using it. A few habits are worth building before your first chat rather than after a bad one.
- Keep identifying details out of the first minutes. Surname, address, workplace and the name of your school all fall under this. If someone asks for them early, that is a reason to leave, not a reason to be polite.
- Check what is behind you. A diploma on the wall, a street sign through the window or mail on a shelf says more than you meant to.
- Do not move the conversation off-platform quickly. Handing over a social account turns an anonymous chat into a traceable one. Wait until you actually trust someone, if ever.
- Treat pressure as information. Anyone rushing you toward something you did not choose has already answered the question of whether to keep talking.

When to leave an anonymous chat
Leave when the conversation is boring, when it is going somewhere you did not agree to, or when something just feels off and you cannot say why. You do not owe anyone a reason. Tap Next and you are with someone else within moments. If someone broke the rules, Block them and Report the call so it gets reviewed; the community guidelines list what is not allowed.
If you want an anonymous conversation that is also strictly two people, with nobody else able to wander in, that is the point of 1v1 video chat, and it is the only kind we run.
